Churches should pay for their sins - not taxpayers
Leader of the Australian Sex Party and Victorian MP Fiona Patten has slammed the Federal Government's free pass to religious institutions on a national compensation scheme for sexual abuse survivors, saying an 'opt-in' scheme was not recommended by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
"It is disgusting that institutions failed to act on abuse in the first place. Now they are being let off the hook again when it comes to compensation for survivors."

Collingwood great Dane Swan has been asked to speak at a Victorian parliamentary inquiry into drugs.
Sex Party MP Fiona Patten has applauded the 2011 Brownlow medallist for speaking out about his substance use.
Swan has admitted to using drugs throughout his 258-game AFL career.
Ms Patten said after hearing mainly from police, politicians and doctors, hearing from Swan would be a breath of fresh air.
